Frequently asked questions
How do I import a PDF from another note app?
Export or share the PDF from your other app, then open it with Pencora (or use the import option inside a notebook). Pencora converts the pages into real, editable pen strokes and detects paper ruling automatically, so lined and grid templates carry over correctly. Long documents convert the first page immediately and finish the rest in the background as you view them.
How does handwriting search work, and which languages does it support?
As you write, Pencora indexes your handwriting on-device using ML Kit Digital Ink recognition, with Vision OCR as a fallback for scanned or imported pages. Search covers eight languages: English, Russian, Ukrainian, Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Portuguese. Nothing is sent off your device to make search work.
Do I need to download anything for search to work?
Each handwriting recognition language model is roughly 20 MB and downloads once from within the app. After that, recognition and search for that language work fully offline. You can choose which languages to download in your profile settings.
What can the geometry tools actually do?
They build real constructions, not drawings. Place points, segments, rays, lines, circles, polygons and curves, then derive what follows from them: midpoints, perpendicular bisectors, angle bisectors, perpendiculars, parallels, tangents, intersections, reflections and triangle centres. Drag any point afterwards and everything derived from it moves too and stays mathematically exact — nothing has to be redrawn. Points can be labelled, and every element takes its own colour, width, opacity, dash pattern and arrowheads. It all lives on the same page as your handwriting, so a proof and the figure it's about sit side by side.
Can I export my notes as a PDF?
Yes. Any notebook can be exported as a true vector PDF — your strokes stay crisp at any zoom level, rather than being flattened into a raster image.
What is the handwriting research donation, and can I delete what I've sent?
It's an entirely optional, opt-in way (18+) to contribute your handwriting samples to a research dataset and to the models trained on it. Once you agree, the words you write on the dataset page are uploaded automatically; words from your notes only if you switch that on too. Samples are identified only by a random ID on your device — never your name or contact details. You can turn it off at any time in your profile, which stops uploads immediately, and you can remove what you've contributed from Profile → Read the details, or by messaging me on Telegram or email with your ID from Profile → Data & privacy → Your anonymous ID. How do I back up my notes?
Connect Google Drive in your profile and Pencora will automatically back up your whole library every day, keep the five newest copies, and let you restore one on a new iPad. The app uses the limited drive.file permission, so it can access only its own backup folder and files — not the rest of your Drive. Backup archives go directly between your device and your Drive and never pass through my servers. If iCloud backup is available in your build, you can use that as an alternative; you can also export or restore a complete backup file manually.
What's the minimum iOS version?
Pencora requires iPadOS 18 or iOS 18, or later.
I found a bug. How do I report it?
Use Settings → Send Feedback inside the app — it's the quickest way, and you can attach a screenshot. You're also welcome to message me directly on Telegram or by email. Include what you were doing, what you expected, and what happened instead, and I'll take a look.
